BETA CAE's Own FEA Solver

EPILYSIS — FEA Solver

Named after the Greek word for solution, EPILYSIS embodies 25 years of accumulated CAE expertise. It covers structural linear and non-linear, dynamics, modal analysis, substructuring, and HPC — bridging the gap between pre- and post-processing for structural, NVH, and optimisation disciplines.

Overview

A Solver Built to Live in the BETA Suite

EPILYSIS is the addition to the BETA CAE Systems analysis tools family — available with the ANSA / EPILYSIS / META suite. It operates as a solution in the field of Finite Element, embodying accumulated knowledge from 25 years of collaboration with the CAE community.

Covering numerous solution types, it intends to bridge the gap between pre- and post-processing for disciplines such as Structural, NVH, Optimization, and more — without the friction of integrating an external solver.

EPILYSIS overview
Structural linear analysis

Solution Type 1

Structural Linear

Linear static analysis on models subjected to static loads — when materials do not exceed their yield limit and deformations remain small relative to overall dimensions. Plus real symmetric Eigenvalue analysis to evaluate natural frequencies and normal modes.

  • Linear static analysis under static loads
  • Real symmetric Eigenvalue analysis
  • Block-Lanczos modal extraction method
  • AMLS (Automated Multi-Level Substructuring) supported
  • Natural frequencies and normal modes
Dynamics analysis

Solution Type 2

Dynamics

Frequency-domain and time-domain dynamic response — direct or modal methods, fluid-structure interface for frequency response, and the Fast FRA algorithm for efficient modal frequency response on large-scale models with high modal counts.

  • Frequency Response — direct or modal method
  • Fluid-Structure interface supported in frequency response
  • Fast FRA algorithm for large models with many modes
  • Transient Response — direct or modal in the time domain

Solution Types 3 / 4 / 5

Non-Linear, Substructuring, HPC

Structural Non-Linear

Quasi-static simulation between rigid and / or deformable structures with small strains — for the case when non-linear contacts are present in an otherwise linear-material model.

Substructuring

Reduce large-scale models using the Guyan static condensation method. For dynamic problems, Component Mode Synthesis (CMS) dynamic substructuring is also supported.

High-Performance Computing

Shared-memory parallel processing uses all available system processors to reduce solution times. Sophisticated in-and-out-of-core capabilities for large-scale models.

Applications

Where EPILYSIS Earns Its Keep

General Structural FEA

A wide range of FEA problems that engineers face daily — EPILYSIS covers them effortlessly with the ANSA pre-processor.

Crash / Safety Setup

Predefined seat-depenetration scenario uses EPILYSIS to depenetrate dummies from seats automatically — standard practice in safety analysis.

NVH Console Analyses

ANSA's NVH Console uses EPILYSIS to calculate modal reduced models, beam stiffeners, and run FRF-based assembly analysis in one environment.

Optimisation

ANSA's Task Manager invokes EPILYSIS to provide the necessary results as input data for downstream optimisers.

Composites

ANSA + META + EPILYSIS form a complete composite-modelling environment — analyse multiple load cases on composite structures.

Discretisation-Driven Remesh

Streamlined ANSA-to-META process providing an optimised mesh based on discretisation error in critical structural areas.
